Loved that “get big” article. My own journey to Crossfit resembled a lot of what was in the article (with some painful rehab and surgery tacked onto my story).
I agree that the logic in the bodybuilding world is pretty silly, but I do still like a good post-workout protein shake (with plenty of carbs in it these days). 😎
Until I met Crossfit, I hadn’t realized that most men’s pants don’t come in waist sizes less than 32 inches. My current waist size is 29 inches, and it continues to head downwards thanks to all these great WODs.

Hotel workout on the rooftop of the LA Hilton:

    3 rounds for time

    5 manmakers
    5 Turkish getups (each arm)

    35lb dumbells

    16:37
Weird looks from hotel staff & treadmill zombies.

Way to keep up the hard work Craig. It must be hard to keep working out while on the road. It is coming back quickly, you will be back to your peak physical condition soon enough.

Almost everyone’s journey to Crossfit looks like that, and as you said, injuries are part of the deal, considering that the vast majority learn the movements from magazines and friends who know nothing

Always crowd pleasers at the ‘hotel fitness room’ (I can’t bring myself to call them a “gym”):

    100 burpees for time

    Turkish get ups

    Pistols with dumbells

    Split Jerks with dumbells

Using the Concept II rowing machine (GASP!)

    Kipping pull ups

Sprint repeats on the treadmill (attempt at your own risk).

They also REALLY hate it when you are barefoot, and you’ll probably get kicked out (I did . . .twice).

Luca: You’re right about the injury thing which holds so especially for men (we rarely will ask for directions of any kind).
Crossfit has a great comprehensive program, even as it extends to scheduling rest days, being deliberate about varying the style and type of workouts, and providing training and hand holding in an environment that makes it clear this isn’t a form of weakness.
    I love it!

It’s very humbling, and it takes a big mad to realize that what you did in the gym so far was mostly wrong and that when you do the exercises right you are not as strong as you thought you were, but the beauty of CrossFit is that it’ll get you strong fast in the right way

Jorgy and I rocked out Luca’s sick, demented squat wod today.

    20 squats
20 squats with a 10 second hold at the bottom
20 squats with a 20 second count on the way down and a 20 second count on the way up.

Yes, folks, it hurts as bad you think it would.

  • Craig

Sorry bout the multiple posts. Thanks for the hotel wod tips jj. It took me a few minutes to figure out what to do this morning:

No pull up bar, 2 treadmills, and a smattering of dumbells.

Turkish getups are just awesome full body workouts.

  • Stavros

WOW, Nate actually joined in a WOD? I wish I was there! Funny thing is, he usually kills it when he does. Solid work guys.

As for me, I’m at the firehouse and it’s a rest day (from working out). So far today it’s been; engine check outs, eat oatmeal, study, make lunch, eat lunch, major drill, shop for dinner, make dinner, eat dinner, cleanup after dinner, study. Oh, with some calls, coffee, and a rockstar mixed in between.

Crossfit Total on the mainpage for tomorrow, already getting mentally prepared.
