Diablo CrossFit is facing a formidable battle in the form of a zoning issue with the City of Pleasant Hill. Despite receiving a business license to operate, we recently learned that “Fitness Studios” (as we are defined) are not permissible in the Light Industrial Zone of Pleasant Hill.

I won the sunglasses that night compliments of Coach and Jimmy. Thank you!

I got a lot of emails for people wanting the recipe to the taco salad I made that night so here it is. I am going to call it Loretta’s Taco Salad. I double it for a large group like I did that night.

1 lb ground meat cooked with taco seasoning (that night I used turkey), cool the meat
before adding it to the mixture
1 can of kidney beans with juice taken out
    5 chopped tomatoes
4oz can chopped or sliced black olives
    1 bunch green onions -chopped
Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing (I used lite that night, can use fat free)
Half a bag of regular Doritos Chips- smashed in the bag
    1 avocado- chopped
1/2 head romaine lettuce-chopped (can use any kind of lettuce)
2 cups of Kraft Mexican Four Cheese (can use any kind of cheese)

Don’t over do it with the dressing, start with a little, mix well, add more if needed. For a double mixture I used about 3/4 of a 16oz bottle.

If I take it somewhere I put the meat on the bottom and throw everything else on top except the cheese, chips and dressing. Right before you serve it add the cheese, chips and dressing.

    Enjoy!

Definitely, people should be there! It would definitely help if our Firefighters, life safety, Police and Military would show up. Municipal government likes those kinds of people, and it might influence their decision if they saw how we serve them.

Count me in for the meeting and a letter. I will do all I can in support of DCF in this matter. DCF has been nothing but a positive and enjoyable experience for me. Let me know if there is anything else I can do?

Ill show up, ready to do whatever. You think I want to have to cut the pull-up structure in half? Not going to happen

I was reading the PH city code, and if all else fails we could apply for a permit under the following provision:

    Commercial Uses
    Adult businesses
    See PHMC Chapter 18.70.
    http://www.codepublishing.com/CA/PleasantHill/html/PleasantHill18/PleasantHill1870.html#18.70

“Adult Businesses” can apply for permit in the LI areas of Pleasant Hill. We have a projector, so that could fall under the “Adult Arcade” stipulation. 🙂

Thank you for your support! Please, please send your letters and emails soon!

Also, on Monday, Feb 16, we will need people to help circulate petitions in the local neighbohoods. We feel residents would much rather have a fitness facility rather than a “light industrial” business that can have hazardous materials, big trucks, etc.

We’ll do a post on this soon. Thank you again.

How about a WOD where the score is “how many flyers can you pass out in 20 minutes?” =)

    Letter sent !

Count Donna and I to be present at this meeting.

I’ll wear my laid off teacher uniform!

Have you guys come up with some talking points to include in our letters?

  • Aaron

There’s a gymnastics gym less then a quarter mile from you guys. Whats the purpose of “light industrial zoning”? Is it a safety thing? The way the economy is they should be happy that there is a paying customer in there city. Probably not going to make it to the meeting but I send my best.

    County!

  • Craig

Thanks Ronnie – great email! Prashant, that is helpful honestly. We are pouring over the City Plan and zoning rules as part of our effort. We will have some impressive points to make.

    Keep your emails coming, please!

Here’s some fire power if you need it. Its always good to fight fire with fire. In my case I just use water, but fire is cool too.

  • Dan - CrossFit Sonoma County

Let me know if you guys need any backup from us over here at CrossFit Sonoma County. We’ll come down in bunches.

This is the same issue that kept me from opening in Petaluma for over a year. You guys are going to rock it.

  • TomC

Do you need to be a DCF member, or Pleasant Hill resident in order to send a letter? I work out at CFO, but would be happy to provide some written support.
