Fatty Liver Disease and Aerobic Capacity linked

“Poor aerobic fitness is strongly associated with obesity and its consequent risks of heart disease, strokes and diabetes – now considered worldwide epidemics. But the underlying link has long puzzled scientists. New research in The Journal of Physiology connects low aerobic capacity to another serious condition – non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) – and suggests that the resulting liver problems play a crucial step developing obesity-related illnesses. . .”

Gotta love JJ’s shades. Nick looks like he’s dressed for a blizzard.

Is that photo at Heavenly (the ski place on earth, not the eternal destination)?
Fight night went great, although the Silva fight was horribly boring. My wife, who is normally skiddish about violence said they both looked like panzies out there. Luckily, the other fights were entertaining. Poor Chuck is on his last legs, though. 8-(
I found a Cuisinart spatula when I was cleaning up at 8am, this morning. Anyone? Anyone?

Big class this morn. 5 cool newbies – fast! Steve did a 3:35 (Mike P was relieved his 3:25 is in tact)

Great DL form all the way around from our peeps. Really impressive to see. Little backlog at the GHDs. – sub 90 situps if you want. .

After much talk and anticipation, today was my first time doing Grace:

    30x 135lb clean&jerks (overhead anyhow) for time.

    6:53 RX.

My time after 15 reps was 3:27, so I ended up with a 3:27/3:26 split. Fast for the first 10 or so, slowed down in the middle, then picked it up for the last 6 when I realized my cleans weren’t going to fail on me. No misses on any of the cleans. All the cleans were power cleans– I’ll try the full squat version some other time. The jerks were mostly jerks, but early on there were quite a few push presses instead.

Random CrossFit thought. Now, when I walk into a Peet’s or a Starbucks, I find myself looking at the counters and wondering if I could jump onto them. Usually, I think I could, but it would be close. So far, I’ve controlled the impulse to actually do so, but one of these days, when the barista turns to draw the shots of espresso, I may just find myself slapping my feet down onto the counter between the pastries and the cash register. Hopefully, there’ll be no injuries or criminal charges.

Yesterday’s 3 o’clock class was a Stornetta-fest. Bryan & Shannon were there with Shannon’s parents (who, oddly enough, aren’t named Stornetta). Shannon’s mom is Lise (mentally, use the Germanic pronunciation if you know it). I never did learn Shannon’s dad’s actual name, but he went variously by Lefty, Hefty, and Land Baron. Also present were Holly, Matt, and Josh.

Due to time constraints and general good sense, everyone did the 1/2 Kelly instead of the full (except Shannon’s parents, who did a smaller fraction). Shannon had the fastest time of the day (11:45), in spite of taking a pee break. Or perhaps because of it– she wasn’t in the lead when she took the break, but charged to the lead afterward. Bryan came in second, leaking brandy as the rounds wore on. Holly finished third, muttering bitterly about “shorter range of motion.” Matt and Josh slugged it out for the final spots.

Some liberties may have been taken in the telling of this story.

My attempt at “Linda” tonight was less than impressive, not a PR by any stretch. Form was stressed especially since the weight was F’n heavy. RX at 215lbs- 43:36. Glad it was under 45:00, but I know I want sub 35:00 at that weight.
