Article: From Mark’s Daily Apple

“How Not to get the Swine Flu”

“Swine flu. Even the hype surrounding it is pandemic. It’s made headlines in every major newspaper and magazine. The CDC has a new press release every half hour. TV talking heads and radio pundits furrow their brows and express extreme consternation as they tell us to start “bracing for the worst.” President Obama has asked for another billion-and–a-half dollars (that we don’t have) to fend off this impending menace. Frightened school boards are halting classes everywhere until they are given a better action plan. Cruises are cancelled, trips are postponed, pigs are slaughtered, nations are blamed. It’s crazy. . .”

Darren and Carry both advanced to the 2nd day at the NorCal Qualifiers. Darren placed 5th and Carry placed 13th with their point totals. Congratulations!

Darren placed 4th, actually. I like this picture because it’s when Darren has the halo of hair.
It is a brutal WOD, tomorrow!

I can’t believe that workout is for real. I suddenly feel much older.

Other news: found the Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton fight here:

Pretty one-sided. An execution by Pacquiao.

Good luck to Darren and Carry. It was inspirational to watch everyone compete! It was also really fun hanging out with everyone.

That day 2 WOD looks ridiculous.

On a side note, Pacquiao straight owned. Hatton had a few hooks in the first round, but after that he was a goner.

Saw Mountain’s comment in the Chat Box that Darren placed 3rd overall in the NorCal Qualifier. Way to go!

Darren told me yesterday that he’s been eating a jar of almond butter a day for the last week. I thought this was crazy talk but I guess it worked pretty well. If the Almond Growers Association sponsors him for the 2009 Games, we’ll know why. 🙂

Stavros and Carry, great performances this weekend! I was living vicariously through each of you during your performances. You both represented DCF well with virtuous movements and fast times.

Darren, you were RIDICULOUS on that final heat on WOD #3. Regardless of region, I don’t think any CF’ers outside of Khalipa, OPT, or Speal would be able to match the performance you gave this weekend. You fought the hill like your life depended on it.

Damn strong work all 3 of you, I’m proud to call you all my friends!

DCF, know that I will be in your corner at the CF Games, and Darren, I hope to get a chance to be your judge in July.
