If you could make up a workout, what would it be? If I made up a workout it would probably be box jumps/step-ups, dumbbell snatches and pull-ups. I’m not saying I’d be able to do it RX necessarily, but it sounds like one I’d like.

When do you normally workout? I usually work out weekday mornings.

What is your favorite class and why? (CrossFit, Strong, F!t) My favorite class would have to be Strong with Jamie Lee.

How long have you been at Diablo? I’ve been at Diablo for a little over 4 years.

What/who led you to try CrossFit? I was introduced to CrossFit when Craig and Jeremy came to my place of employment and started an offsite CrossFit (CiCo). It was very basic, no dumbbells, no barbells, but I was hooked. Six months later I retired but they wouldn’t let me continue to work out with the group so I joined Diablo. I’m really glad I did!

Did you workout before you came to Diablo? If so, what did you do? I always done some kind of exercise, but I didn’t work out in a gym.

What is your favorite thing about the environment at Diablo? I think my favorite thing about Diablo CrossFit is the family atmosphere. It’s hard to explain to someone who has never been there but everyone is so friendly and encouraging. You could never feel like an outsider. I’ve made many great friendships there.

What is your least favorite movement in the gym? My least favorite movement would have to be running if you consider that a movement. I hate running and I’m not good at it.

What is your favorite movement in the gym? My favorite movement is anything with a dumbbell.

What has been your biggest success at Diablo? It’s hard to say what my biggest success has been. There have been many. My first strict chin-up, every time I PR on a lift, my first double under.

What is your favorite genre of music? I have a very eclectic taste in music. I like just about everything, but my favorite is probably good old fashioned rock and roll.

If you could have one superpower what would it be? That’s easy! I would love to be able to fly. Although knowing how much I love to run and how good I am at it, maybe I should say I’d like to be “faster than a speeding bullet”.

What do you do for fun (besides workout)? I love to work on crafts and sew and I especially love to hang out with my grandkids (I have 5, all ages 4 and under).

Who is your hero and why? I would have to say my Dad is my hero. He always taught me I could do anything, to try everything and that it wasn’t worth doing if I wasn’t going to do it right. I think I get my love of working out from him. He is 87 years old and still has his dumbbells, curl bar and weight bench set-up in his garage and uses them on a regular basis. He also walks at least a mile every day.

What is one thing that no one at the gym knows about you? I think those people that know me would be most surprised to know that I’m really a very shy person and tend to be quiet around people I don’t know. (I know, hard to believe) It’s something I’ve worked hard to overcome over the years and I’m much better than I used to be, but it’s still a struggle.

Dynamic Warmup & Mobility:  Minute 0 – 15

  • Coaches’ Choice Group Dynamic Warm Up

Skill: Minute 16 – 30

Turkish Get Ups with Kettlebells or Dumbbells

Spend 5 – 8 Minutes to build up to a challenging weight.

Then complete 1 Drop set by dropping down to a weight you can hang onto for 90 seconds on each arm.

Workout: Minute 31 – 50

For time (Time cap 14 minutes)

  • 10 – 8 – 6 – 4 – 2 Push Press 75 / 115
  • 50 – 40 – 30 – 20 – 10 Double Unders – modify with Single unders with a Double Under attempt every 10th rep.
  • 7 Toes to Bar – Modify with 7 strict sit ups or 7 GHD Sit ups (GHD only if you have used them in the past)

Make sure to complete the 7 Toes to bar at the end of every round.

Score: Total Time

Cool Down: Minute 51 – 60

  • Roll out calves
  • Then Stretch
    • Calves
    • Hip Flexors (Couch Stretch)
    • Triceps

Diablo F!T: Complete 5 rounds starting every 4th minute

  • 1 minute Bike
  • 8 Dumbbell Push Press – Go Heavy (Should have to break them up in later rounds)
  • 30 Double Unders
  • 15-20 Sit ups or 15 Toes to Bar

Rest until the next round starts
