  • Alessandra Pichelli Athlete

Alessandra was born in Montreal and grew up in Canada and Japan. She started CrossFit in 2010 after finishing her career as a collegiate rower at Saint Mary’s. Her rowing coach was the one that introduced her to CrossFit.

Since then Alessandra has been blessed with the opportunities that the sport has provided her. She made the CrossFit Games the first time with her Diablo CrossFit teammates in 2012 and finished 3rd. Afterwards, she has been competing as an individual and competed at the Games three times after winning the NorCal Regionals. Her best finish was as a rookie in 2013 finishing 4th.

Sandra has been living in Orinda, which is 20 minutes outside of San Francisco after graduating from Saint Mary’s College. She loves the Californian lifestyle of lots of outdoor activities under the sun!

Kyle grew up in Hollister, CA playing baseball. After high school Kyle went on to attend California State University East Bay on an athletic scholarship for baseball, earning a Bachelors Degree in Business.

Finding CrossFit happened his senior year when his roommate told him about it. Kyle started following the daily workouts from a gym back home doing the workouts every day that summer. He finally joined an affiliate and fell in love with CrossFit, beginning to coach about a year later. Giving CrossFit a “try” has been one of his best decisions and changed his life for the better. CrossFit opened new relationships, a healthier lifestyle, and introduced him to an amazing community.

  • Vanessa Santillán Athlete

Vanessa was born and raised in sunny Southern California. During college she joined a women’s full contact football team and ended up playing for five years as the starting running back. Her love of the gym, playing sports, and getting sweaty led her to earn a Kinesiology degree with an emphasis on Sports Performance. Vanessa became a personal trainer at a young age and within a few years began coaching various elite level athletes.

In 2012 after watching the CrossFit games on TV Vanessa’s wife, Kayla, encouraged her to do her first CrossFit Workout…Fran. Of course they had no idea what scaling was, so doing Fran at the men’s RX’d weight with all strict pull-ups beat her up…naturally she was hooked. Fast forward to NorCal Regionals 2013 the crazy excited DCF fans and all of their amazing athletes competing caught Vanessa’s attention. The next week they moved to Concord and starting training at Diablo Pleasant Hill. Following the Diablo’s programming Vanessa made huge gains and made it onto Diablos Anejo regional competition team. Vanessa’s favorite part of coaching is seeing people achieve a goal that they have been working towards…getting to wear workout clothes everyday is a close second.

    – What is your Dream Car? My 1995 black Chevy Camaro I had in High School. Fun times!

    – Favorite vacation location? Anywhere Outdoors, drink in hand, fun activities, lots of adventure and good food

    – Last place you went on a date? I don’t remember… I have 2 kids.

In high school he shifted his focus to baseball and wrestling where he excelled at the nearby powerhouse De La Salle, earning all league honors in baseball, and helping to lead his team to a state title his senior year. Pete continued his baseball career in college, earning an athletic scholarship to Concordia university, where he was a 4-year starter, serving as team captain for 2 of those years. When his baseball career ended, he needed something to channel his competitive spirit. He found CrossFit and never looked back.

Kyle was born in the bay area and grew up in the small town of Benicia where he enjoyed playing football and wrestling. He moved to San Diego to get his Mechanical Engineering degree from UC San Diego while excelling as a college wrestler winning the NCWA western states championship 4 years straight as well as taking All-american honors twice at the national championships.

Kyle went on to become a Firefighter/Paramedic working for El Cajon Fire Department (just outside San Diego city) for 8 years. During that time, Kyle’s athletic interests continued with many 1/2 marathons, ironman triathlons, and even became an amateur MMA fighter boasting a 9-1 fight record and claiming 2 championship belts. After Kyle hung up his gloves and left the ring, his younger sister convinced him to try CrossFit to transition his athletic interests. He quickly fell in love with the challenge of testing his personal abilities and strength. Outlier CrossFit in San Diego taught him a great sense of teamwork as he competed in multiple team and partner competitions in his first year. He eventually moved back to the bay area to live closer to his family and joined Diablo CrossFit in July of 2014. Kyle joined the Anejo team in 2015 and has enjoyed every minute of adding his strengths to the already incredible group of athletes.

  • Kayla Clark Athlete

Kayla is a busy family woman who shares a home with her wife Vanessa, two kids Zayne and Apryl, and a dog (Jack) and a cat (Kitty). She graduated from San Francisco State University with her BS in Kinesiology and her Teaching Credential in 2013. She is currently a PE teacher at Dublin High School.

She has been doing CrossFit for about 4 years now, starting in her garage and following CrossFit.com Workouts. Her first CrossFit workout ever was Fran (at 95lbs with strict pull ups) and she DNF’d. It was then she knew that as hard as CrossFit was, she was determined to be good at it. After about a year of training out of her home, she and her wife Vanessa, decided to join a gym. They had dropped into a few gyms in their area, but when they saw Diablo CrossFit compete at the 2013 regionals in Santa Rosa they knew that was the type of environment and community that they wanted to be a part of. One week later they packed up their house in Oakland, CA, and moved across the bay to Concord, 1.2 miles from their new Diablo CrossFit Home.

Kayla made the Reposoado team her first year at Diablo in 2014 and got to compete alongside the two other Diablo teams at Regionals in San Jose. The following year in 2015 she made the Anejo team, competed in the Super Regionals in San Diego, and helped take Diablo back to the Reebok CrossFit Games. She has her sights set on doing that again with her Diablo Anejo team in 2016.

  • Kaitlin Kopp Athlete

Kaitlin (aka KK) was born in Lake Tahoe and moved to the East Bay when she was 5. She grew up playing soccer, softball, dance and cheerleading. She stopped playing sports in college but missed being apart of a team and participating in a competitive sport. She found CrossFit in 2012 and signed up with a goal of “getting her toned soccer body back”…whatever that means. That goal quickly turned into wanting to get strong, kick ass, and explore what her body and mind were truly capable of. Kaitlin joined Diablo CrossFit in 2014 and went on to compete with Anejo at the 2015 Regionals. She has only just gotten started and plans on continuing her pursuit as a CrossFit competitor.

    – Are you a Dog or Cat person: Both! I’m an animal lover, I don’t discriminate 😉

  • Jamie Lee Athlete

Jamie was born and raised here in the East Bay. Grew up wrestling for the Pleasant Hill Wrestling Club, which is were his athletic background began. After wrestling he got into Cross Country and Downhill mountain bike racing in search of some type of competition outlet. One of the personal trainers at his old gym talked him into doing “Fran” (which is one of CrossFits benchmark workouts). After that workout he was hooked. He started following the CrossFit Main Site, CrossFit Journal, then became a CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) Trainer. Not only is it his outlet for his competition, but it is his tool to help teach people how to move and be healthy. Jamie says,”Competitions are a lot of fun, but the feeling I get when someone does there first pull up or picks up a lot of weight when they thought they couldn’t is way more satisfying for me.”

Before CrossFit Jamie Lee was a Personal trainer at a local Health Club. Once he was introduced to CrossFit, he knew that it was the most efficient way to teach Fitness to anyone new to it and to experienced Athletes. It is very difficult to do CrossFit at a “Globo Gym”, due to the lack of functional equipment, not to mention that the big globo gyms do not allow heavy strength training, because dropping weights is a distraction to the other members. Thats when Jamie decided to branch out and opened his own CrossFit Affiliate (CrossFit Burn), where he received some great experience. After running and programming for his own gym, Jamie closed his gym and joined the Diablo CrossFit Family. Jamie says, “I love it here, it is such a great atmosphere, and I am receiving all the Support I need to share CrossFit with our community”.

  • Payam Saljoughian Coach

Payam was born and raised in the east bay. He swam and played waterpolo in high school, and went on to swim all four years at UC Santa Cruz, where he was the team captain his senior year. After college, Payam competed in triathlons for a while before getting serious about marathon running. Payam ran a best road marathon time of 2:48 before moving onto trail running and becoming a sponsored ultramarathon runner. The day after he completed his second 50-mile race in 2011, Payam quit running and began CrossFit. Having gone to college in Santa Cruz where CrossFit originated, Payam was interested in trying CrossFit for many years before finally signing up. He attended LaLanne Fitness in San Francisco for a few months before joining Diablo.

Payam has been involved in coaching for much of his life, and has a passion for helping athletes reach their goals. He coached a recreational swim team in his home town of Moraga for 8 years, and coached high school men’s and women’s waterpolo for a few years. Payam helped coach Diablo CrossFit’s regionals and games teams for a few years before fully taking over as Diablo’s head competition coach in 2015. Payam is also in his third year as assistant coach and head scout for the San Francisco Fire in the National Pro Grid League. During the day, Payam practices law as an attorney at Hanson Bridget LLP in San Francisco.
