A Note From Someone Who Thought They Couldn't Do It
“I was an ignorant someone that thought negatively about CrossFit (probably more intimidated). For that, I am ashamed. I signed up for a 6-week program out of desperation. I injured my back earlier in the year – a slipped disc, vomiting from the pain, contemplating state disability, doctors told me my only choice was cortisone shots, which I refused. I couldn’t bend over to tie my own shoes. I started eating my feelings. I gained 25 pounds. Then, I started going to the chiropractor, kept up with acupuncture, stretched. My back started feeling better, baby steps and touching my toes again, light exercise. I still lacked motivation, goals, and ideas.
An ad for the program popped up in my Facebook feed. After contemplating for a week, I decided to do it. It changed my life. I also went hardcore paleo – my choice – and, I even cut out caffeine. Because I had to show up three days a week, I felt that I was held accountable for my actions, which made it easier to stick to. I started losing weight, I became stronger, I began to move better and without pain. I challenged myself and pushed myself. I brought my food with me everywhere. I forced myself to go to the gym on my own.
I’ve had broken bones, torn ligaments, and a slipped disc; I have permanent plates and screws, and to top it off, I have asthma. I’m pretty much a clumsy person that can’t breathe. I never missed a day – I did miss the 6 am a few times because of work, but always came to a later class. Every time I was last, I wanted to cheat, shave off a few step-ups or pull-ups, make better time. But I didn’t. Instead, I finished last sometimes or with less rounds and I am grateful. I took pride in my form and did things slowly to make sure I did them right so I wouldn’t hurt myself. When I wanted to give up, I would tell myself, “the only person you’re cheating is yourself”. So I didn’t cheat. I finished with respect for myself and a new outlook on life.
When it comes down to it, the coaching was the reason why the class was amazing. They motivated everyone equally and pushed all of us. They modified exercises to ability levels, but still made it incredibly challenging. They made everything comfortably uncomfortable.

Hi, I’m Leka, Coach at Diablo CrossFit.
Over the last 10 years, I have spent thousands of hours learning proven methods to get strong, build endurance, improve mobility & flexibility, gain energy, and lose fat – and have fun while doing so. I’ve acquired several fitness & nutrition certifications across a broad range of disciplines.
Working together with the Diablo CrossFit team, I have developed a program designed for a more mature participant with less fitness experience. It is a gradual and scalable approach to strength training and fitness. I’ve eliminated the guesswork to losing weight, becoming fit and building sustainable, healthy habits for life.
With your commitment, I’ll help you achieve strength and fitness beyond your expectation AND establish healthy habits for life.
You just have to (1) commit, (2) show up, (3) do the work, and (4) have fun!

Book your “No-Sweat” Introduction.
Your No Sweat Intro is a FREE 20 minute 1-on-1 meeting where one our coaches will sit down and talk with you about your goals and previous fitness experience. We’ll show you our facilities and fill you in on the details of our program. If it’s a good fit for both of us, we’ll get you signed up!
Commit and Attend Class!
Successful habits are built on small, repeated accomplishments. If you decided to participate in our Fit-Over-50 program, you must carve out the class time in your schedule. We are going to commit to you. We need you to commit to YOU too.
Ask Questions & Learn
Your Coaches are an incredible source of great information on fitness & nutrition. They have worked with all types of athletes of every age, ability and limitation. They know how to scale and substitute for every ability. But, they cannot read minds! So be sure to ask questions and give feedback so your Coach can personalize your experience.
Measure, adjust and celebrate!
We’ll be testing your fitness and mobility as we progress throughout the program. And, we’ll make adjustments to your workouts so that you get the most out of this program. And when you set new personal records, we’ll be there to celebrate with you!

This program is for anyone, men & women, 50 years old or older, who wants to start a fitness program to build strength, endurance and mobility – no experience is necessary.
This program is for anyone that wants to make a change or build new fitness & nutrition habits. We have a place for you if you are truly ready to make a change.
In short, yes. Fit-Over-50 is scalable to every ability and limitation – meaning we can work around old injuries, tight muscles, creaky joints and limited mobility.
Classes are Monday & Wednesdays at 11:00AM -12:00PM.
Yes! We’d really like you to attend the 3 group sessions each week. If you are unable to attend all of the sessions, this may not be the right program for you. We have a method that works. We are committed. However, we understand that illness or an emergency may prevent attendance for a single class.
Each class will begin with a group discussion about the workout for the day. Then we’ll move into mobility and stretching work to prepare for the class. Every class will include some strength work – weightlifting exercises such as Squats, Deadlifts, Presses and Ring Rows, all scaled to abilities. We’ll end class with some conditioning work.
In true CrossFit fashion, classes will be fun and you will make great friends and connections that will keep you wanting to come back for more.
You are going to learn: (1) how to move and exercise properly; (2) how to improve flexibility and mobility and, (3) how to build healthy habits for life. We emphasize proper movement patterns that keep you injury free – in the gym and in life. And, we focus on building foundational strength while also increasing your level of fitness.
Building strength increases your basal metabolic rate – in other words, you burn more calories all day long. And, by developing your training skills and abilities you’ll feel more confident in the gym and in life.
You will get stronger, move better, strengthen your core and joints and maybe lose some weight as your fitness improves.
