CROSSFIT FOR SALE – NBD As most of us know, CrossFit the company is up for sale by the current owners, Berkshire Partners, a Private Equity group out of Boston. 3 or 4 parties are rumored to be involved, all with a keen interest in growing the business – obviously. While several CrossFit content creators, media outlets and influencers speculate on the possible outcomes of a sale and the future of CrossFit, I remain confident about our future and the future of the methodology and brand. Here’s why:
Affiliate$ Rule: CrossFit Affiliates and our member communities represent the primary source of revenue and growth for the business: Affiliation Fees, Training Certifications, CrossFit Games Competition Registrations and, of course, related equipment, apparel, software and other consumable purchases. The brand ecosystem (I hate that word) is massive and the affiliates are the foundation. Thus, it’s fair to assume that anyone acquiring CrossFit the company will be keenly interested in maintaining, improving and growing affiliate relationships.
Diablo Thrives. We’re a 20 year affiliate with an established reputation and brand and a supportive community that helps us thrive in all market conditions. And, like other affiliates, our members are mostly oblivious to the inner-workings of CrossFit the company, especially since it has no impact on their daily CrossFit experience. Diablo will be fine.
CrossFit Works Better Than All Others. CrossFit is an amazing fitness methodology that is proven: constantly varied, functional movements executed at high intensity. The workouts are hard and, more importantly, they are measurable, observable and repeatable. Thus, performance improvements (fitness) are easily discernible. “Measurable, Observable & Repeatable” is a unique and distinguishing characteristic of the methodology which allows for competition, ie, the CrossFit Games.
Coaches & Affiliates Save Lives. The CF methodology was so simple and so incredibly effective that it spread rapidly around the world, first to Military, Police, Fire & First Responders, then to fitness enthusiasts. CF began certifying trainers and allowing qualified trainers to open affiliates. What followed next was an amazing phenomenon in the fitness industry: the explosive growth of CrossFit affiliate communities – incredibly passionate members whose lives & health were dramatically changed by CrossFit – coming together to share their workouts and experiences. The “community” of fitness keeps members coming back and it attracts new members looking for a healthy community to join.
My Advice To New Owners: “Don’t F*ck It Up!” What do affiliates want from the owners of the brand? It’s simple: we want CrossFit to protect and promote the brand and the methodology. Share the amazing, life-changing, stories from affiliate communities. Stop trying to please everybody. Trust the methodology, your Red Shirts, your Affiliate Owners, and most of all the community. We all know what to do.
To put it bluntly, don’t fuck it up. We’ll take care of the rest.

CRAIG’S LIST: FIX YOUR BACK
I’m a big fan of Dr. Stuart McGill a “distinguished professor emeritus” at Univ of Waterloo – especially when he’s talking with Dr. Peter Attia. If you’ve suffered with any back pain, especially, chronic pain, sciatica pain, etc, then please take a listen to this podcast. It’s long, but very interesting and enlightening.
