THE AWESOME COMMUNITY  One of the greatest measures of business success for Yvonne and me is when our members post on social media having fun with other members in our community – outside of our gym. It brings us joy knowing that our community creates friendships, business relationships, support networks and even romantic relationships – all of which extend way beyond our four walls. Our community keeps members connected and often, keeps them coming to class. We help each other get better and healthier – physically and mentally. And, more than a few times, our community has saved people from the brink of despair.

These last two weeks offered multiple reminders to us of the special connections and friendships that happen at Diablo CrossFit and likely, at CrossFit gyms all around the world. A week ago, several Diablo members traveled to Las Vegas together to compete in a huge Hyrox race at the convention center. Not surprising, there were CrossFitters from all over the US in attendance – a giant CrossFit reunion of sorts. The pictures from our members, hanging out, competing together and cheering each other on (complete with signs!) was incredibly cool to see. And, on Saturday, I arrived a little late to the Oakland Open, a USAW weightlifting event, only to witness 13 Diablo athletes competing together, with 3 Diablo coaches in attendance – some competing and ALL helping coach – along with many members from our community cheering everyone on for the entire event! Honestly, I was humbled by the camaraderie and companionship on full display – along with the athleticism, courage and strength, which ALL originated inside Diablo CrossFit.

Needless to say, Yvonne and I feel blessed by the success of our CrossFit community and are honored to be a part of it. We are grateful every day that we get to go to work at such an awesome place. And, we’re passionate about supporting CrossFit and the CrossFit community so that others can benefit and share in this awesome, life-changing experience.

Thank you, everyone, for believing in CrossFit, trusting the process, and for supporting Diablo and our community.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT DIABLO...IN’NOUT HELEN  When we got started back in ’05, we had a LOT of fun with CrossFit workouts. The “metcon” was new to the fitness world, incredibly effective on one hand, and open to a LOT of interpretation on the other (sometimes not so smart or healthy). Often, our creative workout designs were way too long, or in some cases, vomitous, like  “In-N-Out Helen.” Somewhere on some blog or Reddit post, a CrossFit enthusiast posted the “In-N-Out” Helen workout – a variation of the CrossFit benchmark Girl workout “Helen”:  3RFT – 400m Run, 21 KB Swings and 12 Pull-ups.  The catch? Add an In-N-Out Double-Double (double cheeseburger) before every 400m run.

Of course, 2 of our 20yo coaches, Josh Jorgensen and Rick Hielman along with my former partner, Jeremy Jones, had to give it a shot. And..we put it on video – on YouTube. Needless to say, this was not our best marketing. But, it still makes me smile and laugh today.

CRAIG’S LIST:

  • BREAKFAST – Heavenly Bistro, Pleasant Hill. Yvonne & I are here every Sunday! My favorite meal of the day and I love a great breakfast joint. Heavenly gets very high marks for consistent quality, great variety (Chilaquiles to Chicken & Waffles), affordability, great coffee and exceptional, friendly service.
  • BINGE VIEW – Landman – Paramount / Prime. Billy Bob Thornton is well cast in this one. I worked with an Oil & Gas research firm for several years and can verify the importance of a good “landman”. This is a classic Taylor Sheridon (Yellowstone, Wind River) series. Good storyline, a bit violent, sarcastic humor, exaggerated reality and sex.
  • TRUCK I WANTToyota Hilux –  This is Toyota’s $10,000 Hilux Champ – a small, no-frills, diesel utility truck not available in the US ..yet. It has no a/c and hand-crank windows.
  • FAV SUPERBOWL COMMERCIAL – GoDaddy – Act Like You Know – I connected with this one… lol.

Make it an awesome week!
