CROSSFIT TO THE RESCUE..
Yesterday morning, my neighbor called and told us that her husband had fallen in the kitchen and she was unable to help him. He suffers from late-stage Parkinsons and is also obese. Another neighbor happened to be walking by when I ran to the house – he joined me and together we were able to help my neighbor up and onto a chair. Fortunately my neighbor was uninjured.
Yesterday’s experience was not the 1st time that my fitness has helped another human in a difficult situation and I’m sure it won’t be my last. In fact, many of you reading this email have likely had similar experiences (especially First Responders, Nurses & Docs). With an aging population, we’ll all likely be asked to do the same at some time.
I’m grateful that I can be called upon, especially now that I’m in my 60’s. In fact, one of my primary internal motivations for doing CrossFit is so that I can always be ready physically to help and protect my family and others in need. I never want to be in a position where I cannot help. Likewise, I never want to be in a position where I’m the one in need assistance (though I suspect it may be inevitable). So, my secondary internal motivation for doing CrossFit is so that I can remain healthy, strong and agile as long as humanly possible.
CrossFit for you helps others.
.. and be sure and check out “I’m Done Being Obese” – Nathan Shipley’s story about his decision to be healthy, strong & agile for his family.

CRAIG’S LIST: CrossFit Curing Obesity & Cannabis In Sport
- YT: I Am Done Being Obese, Episode 1: WOW! After years of being obese, neglecting his health, and feeling stuck and overlooked for his size, Nathan Shipley decided to take advantage of the fresh-start effect and make a massive change on Jan. 1, 2025. Shipley started his weight-loss journey with a single video posted to a brand new Instagram account with the handle @i.am.done.being.obese. What started with a walk around the block soon led to Shipley stepping into CrossFit Kinesis after being encouraged by his church community.
- Podcast: Is Weed A Performance Enhancing Drug? – Freakonomics Radio (Pt 2) This is another great podcast on “cheating” in sports and includes a fascinating discussion with former NFL Running Back legend Ricky Williams and his frustrating (but hopeful) experience with cannabis use and his punishment by the NFL. This episode also includes a discussion with the head of the new “Enhanced Games”. Be sure and listen to Part 1: If You’re Not Cheating, You’re Not Trying – Freakonomics Radio. Pt 1, with Floyd Landis, Tour de France winner (revoked).
Make it an awesome week!
