COACH JAMIE LEE 10 YEARS! Congratulations and thank you to Coach Jamie Lee for TEN years of service to our Diablo Community. In 2011 Jamie Lee merged his affiliate community (CrossFit Burn) with Diablo and took on a coaching & athlete role. As an athlete, Jamie anchored 4 CrossFit Games teams for Diablo, including our 2013 podium crew. As a coach, Jamie has been programming Diablo workouts since 2016 when also took on the role of Head Coach. Now he’s a part time Diablo Coach and the CEO & Head Programmer for Progressive Programming delivering multiple daily workouts to hundreds of gyms around the world.
IN-N-OUT SOLIDARITY T-Shirts & tanks now available online. After multiple threats from the City of San Francisco, In-N-Out publicly responded with this statement: “It is unreasonable, invasive, and unsafe to force our restaurant Associates to segregate customers into those who may be served and those who may not, whether based on the documentation they carry, or any other reason.” I strongly agree.
We now have multiple vaccines, vaccine expirations, boosters and, of course, “breakthrough” cases of CV19. Checking “current” vaccine cards is a confusing, cumbersome and futile process. Current protective measures at Diablo have proven exceptionally successful and will continue. And, we trust our members to make good decisions for themselves and others.
CONTRA COSTA #’S: Contra Costa County numbers continue their weekly decline: 1,175 total cases (down 82% from Aug 14). Total CCC hospitalizations are at a 7 day average of 50 patients (down 78% from Aug 22).
“AMAZING GRACE” There’s something amazing about completing a benchmark workout, with a cause, and with people cheering you on. There were sooo many PRs on Saturday and an equal number of first time “Grace”s. It was a blast to watch, scream and support. At the end of the day, Diablo and our community raised $3,360 for the Community Youth Center in Concord – enough to fund 10 annual scholarships for children in low-income communities. Thank you for your support. Here’s some pics from the day!
TWEET(S) OF THE WEEK: “If you wish to make America great again, begin with yourself: healthy nutrition & exercise.” And, on the other side of the party line: “‘Build back better.’ Great fitness & nutrition advice for every American.”

CRAIG’S LIST (Stuff I’m Reading, Hearing, Watching, Using or Buying)
Washington Post Opinion: Journalists must do better. I do not agree with Joe Rogan’s opinion on every subject. But, I really enjoy listening to his interviews and discussions on topics because of his style, enthusiastic interest and humility. And, his recent self-treatment for CV-19 was harshly and unfairly criticized by the media, especially CNN – which, in my opinion, creates distrust of mainstream media. David Von Drehle of the Washington Post wrote this excellent opinion piece on that topic. “It is not the journalist’s job to tell people what to think. The job is to question, to learn and to share those learnings — as well as their limits. In weighing the credibility of sources, we must first examine ourselves.”
Freakonomics Radio #477: Why is US Media So Negative? Yes, negativity in the news attracts more attention. And, mainstream media has predominantly negative content. This excellent episode examines the data and gives poignant and very current examples of the negative spin process and discusses why it’s happening so often. The scary part: FB generates $70b a year in ad revenue – which dwarfs all of the newspapers & tv media combined. And, almost 30% of Americans get their news from FB. Thus, news companies must create provocative FB posts to get attention or increase virality.
CrossFit Health Tip: Do I Have Insulin Resistance? Diablo member Dr. Tom McCoy, a family physician and now, a partner physician in the new CrossFit Precision Care program, talks with Dr. Julie Foucher, about Insulin Resistance and how you know if you have it. 1 in 3 Americans have prediabetes and 84% don’t know it.
Make it an awesome week!
