“When you have confidence, you can have a lot of fun. And when you have fun, you can do amazing things.” Joe Namath
THE CASE FOR PRIVATE TRAINING – Our group classes are amazing at building GPP (general physical fitness), including strength, endurance, power, stamina, agility, balance, flexibility and more. While it’s CrossFit’s tagline, it’s also the truth: CrossFit forges “elite fitness,” especially if you come consistently, 3-5 days a week for several months. And, for many of us, that’s all we need.
However, in a group class environment, our coaches’ potential for knowledge and skill transfer is limited – there’s a lot to do to keep everyone moving well and on time. And, knowledge and skills are two important contributors to movement virtuosity, and enhanced physical fitness. Many exercises in CrossFit, especially gymnastics, a best learned and mastered with the instruction and watchful eye of an experienced coach: pull ups, handstand push ups, muscle ups, wall walks, double unders, and of course, the Olympic Lifts. A one-on-one session with an experienced Coach often uncovers unconscious movement flaws and yields improved movement patterns for future success. And, most importantly, the one-on-one session is the start of a longer-term commitment to a focused attack on movement virtuosity.
And, when an athlete achieves success with a new complex movement in CrossFit, elation is instantaneous and usually shared with a ring of the PR bell. A door to future fitness performance success is unlocked. Confidence rises. CrossFit is fun again. Fitness improves.
Stop scaling. Plan your attack. Ask for help from a coach. You can do this.
HOLY SH*T, THATS A LOT OF DRUG ADS – Recently, Yvonne & I mindlessly tuned into the Game Show Network on regular TV – and were shocked by what we saw. Literally 90-100% of the commercials are for drugs of every kind, from cancer to psoriasis – it’s actually mind-blowing. There was literally one drug advertised that was promoted to help with the side-effects of another drug for diabetes. It’s bizarre and very sad in my opinion.
The US and New Zealand are the only Countries in the world who permit drug company advertising. And in the US, Pharma spends a mind-boggling $7b a year in advertising! Check out this quick story which begins with a quick outtake of British tourists who watched American TV pharma ads – the perspective is enlightening.
If you think $7 billion is a lot of money for advertising, you must consider, that the U.S. pharmacy market size was $534.21 billion in 2020. And, the market is projected to grow to $861.67 billion by 2028 – almost $1Trillion in drugs. It is no wonder that Amazon wants a piece of that pie.
I think it’s important to note that life expectancy in the US has actually dropped in the last few years, yet drug sales are skyrocketing. Drugs are mostly treating symptoms that result from poor lifestyle choices – food, drink, stress and sleep. And Pharma is getting rich from our choices.

CRAIG’S LIST:
Apologies – I’m stuck on the Huberman Lab lately because they’re so damn interesting! His two recent guest are really frikkin’ good. Learning a ton!! Huberman should be one you follow.
Podcast: Huberman Lab with Andy Galpin PhD Part 3/6 – “Carbon In, Carbon Out”: How to Build Physical Endurance & Lose Fat. This episode is so good. Learning a TON. I bet you didn’t know how you actually “lose” weight: through your exhalation of carbon. Yes, the actual loss of calories occurs when you exhale more carbon than the amount of carbon you consume. #science
Podcast: Huberman Lab with Dr. Sara Gottfried: How to Optimize Female Hormone Health for Vitality & Longevity – Another outstanding episode. Huberman is so good at landing great guests with killer data and super relevant and timely content. I learned a TON about the female metabolic system and am humbled by Dr. Gottfried’s knowledge. Loved the discussion on gut microbiome health and brith control.
Article: Is Joe Rogan Right About the Benefits of Sauna... kinda, but the science is mostly observational.
Watching: 7 Days Out – NetFlix Documentary. So good. Watched Episode 2 about the re-opening of the #1 Ranked Restaurant in the world, Eleven Madison Park. Each episode of the show follows a major event, beginning with 7 days before as organizers and employees plan the logistics and details prior to the event’s start. You will be blown away by the attention to detail and logistics management skills of the two impressive owners of this killer restaurant.
Make it an awesome week!
