DIABLO V4.0

Our recent celebration of Diablo’s 20 years of affiliation with CrossFit led me to contemplate, “what’s next for Diablo?” And, it also prompted several friends of ours to ask us, “what’s YOUR plans?”… as in, “are you gonna retire soon?” Yvonne is a little more blunt than I am when we talk about our plans when she says: “what the f-ck else are we gonna do?” But, she’s right – Diablo CrossFit is our family, an incredibly cool community, a successful small business and, a powerful health & fitness transformation center. Diablo CrossFit is our “purpose” – a key component to longevity. Thus, our plans are to keep this awesome thing going for at least another 20-30 years or longer.

However, the biggest threat to the future of Diablo CrossFit (or any CrossFit affiliate for that matter) is rapidly rising costs of real estate. As a blunt example, our current building (and surrounding complex) was recently acquired by an investment company for a premium which impacted our lease cost to reflect the pending increase in property tax. And, when our current lease expires, our renewal rate will be adjusted upward substantially to “match current comps in the area.”

As it is often said in sports, “the best defense is to play offense.” So, on July 2nd, Yvonne and I decided to play offense and signed a purchase agreement for the 16,000sf building that was the former home of Encore Gymnastics – almost exactly 500 meters from our current location – at the corner of Bancroft & Hookston and adjacent to the Iron Horse Trail. And, if everything goes as planned, we will be moving in to our new facility in the first quarter of 2027.

While we are incredibly exited for “Diablo 4.0”, there are many hurdles we must get over before we can move in, including (and not limited to) financing approvals, building & zoning permits, extensive renovations and the actual (dreaded) physical move. So, we are also restraining our excitement until we have permits and a deed in hand.

Of course, we’ll keep our community updated as we make our way through the process and bureaucracy. And, we couldn’t do this without the support and love from our team and our awesome community. Thank you.

We’ll do our best to make DIablo 4.0 the best version yet.

#itsup2us

2026 CrossFit Games Athlete Moritz Fiebig and his coach Michael Allen arrived at Diablo last week in preparation for the CrossFit Games. Not wanting to impose on our community, they’ve been training during off-hours and and adding in off-site work. In between sessions they’ve been hanging out with our community, trading stories, sharing training tips, and getting to know everyone. Diablo secured swimming pool access, great hills to climb, and our community provided bikes for cyclocross training.
So, Moritz and Mike wanted to give back by coaching some classes – and we offered up two big classes on Independence Day!
Our members loved it – they’re both affiliate owners, top-level coaches, and passionate CrossFitters.
This is CrossFit.
