CROSSFIT & INDEPENDENCE DAY

In the late ’90s, Yvonne & I lived in Lexington, MA (very near to the site of the “shot heard round the world”). During that time, I learned a lot about the life and times of the Colonialists who founded our Country. They were hearty, passionate and courageous people: farmers, blacksmiths, merchants, craftsmen, mothers and fathers – not professional soldiers. Daily life demanded strength, endurance, resilience, and the willingness to sacrifice for something greater than themselves. Physical capability wasn’t a hobby – it was simply part of being prepared to care for family, community, and country. So, as we celebrate the Fourth of July, it’s worth remembering that America’s independence was earned by ordinary men and women who accepted extraordinary responsibility.

Today, we live in a world that asks much less of us physically. Convenience is the norm. But, the value of being physically prepared hasn’t changed. We may never be called upon to march into battle (thank goodness), but every one of us will be called upon to lift a child, help a spouse, recover from illness, hike with friends, carry groceries, or simply remain independent as we age.

Fitness is one of the few pursuits that benefits everyone around us. A healthier parent is a better parent. A stronger spouse is a better partner. A capable neighbor is someone others can rely on. Physical preparedness isn’t about aesthetics or competition – it is about becoming someone who can answer the call when life inevitably asks something difficult of you.

So, let’s enjoy the barbecue, the parades, the fireworks, and time with family and friends. And, let’s also take a moment to appreciate the remarkable people who came before us and recommit to becoming the strongest, healthiest, and most capable version of ourselves.

GAMES WEEK EXCITEMENT!!

The 2026 are in San Jose this year from July 24-26th. CrossFit Games Diablo has more than 80(!!) members who have purchased tickets to the CrossFit Games. It’s going to be an exciting week – with a few adjustments to our classes to accomodate our coaches.

  1. CrossFit Oslo Kriger (1st place 2025) will be training AT Diablo from July 16th – July 23rd. Kristin Holte (8x CFG), Oda Lundekvam, Tola Morakinyo (7x CFG), and BK Gudmundsson (11x CFG!) will be at Diablo making their final preparations for the CrossFit Games in San Jose! Let’s show them some DIablo LOVE & support  They may need help with transportation, workout set up & take down, etc. And, I know they’d love a cheering section at the Games!

  2. CrossFit Games Indy Athlete: Matilde Garnes (3x CFG) will also be training at Diablo the week prior to the Games!! She’ll likely be traveling with Team Oslo, but will be training separately. We’ll make sure she has what she needs along with a great cheer section at the Games.

  3. Out-Of-Town CrossFit Games Visitor Drop-Ins:  Along with the Games athletes, Diablo is expected to have a large number of Drop-Ins visiting our gym to get the Diablo experience. We’ll have some dedicated class times and drop-in deals to make the experience a LOT of fun.

  4. Coach & Owners Conference (July 22 & 23rd): Several of Diablo’s Coaches & staff will be attending the conference – sharing experiences and advancing their education – which may affect our class schedule. So far it looks like we’ll have everything covered but be sure to check the Diablo schedule app for any changes the week of the Games.

Lastly: DO YOU NEED TICKETS TO THE GAMES?  We have several members who are selling individual day tickets at a great price – seated in the Diablo CrossFit section (201) with a great view of all the action. CRAIG’S LIST: Stuff I’m Watching, Reading, Using or Listening to…

PRIME VIDEO (Parmount+)
  • The Agency – 2 Seasons. Yvonne and I loved this series. The cast is excellent and includes Richard Gere as the Director of the CIA. This series requires your full attention as there are multiple, intertwined stories that keep you engaged and thinking. Season 2 is even better than Season 1.

YOUTUBE
  • National Geographic: Alex Honnold Climbs a 4,000ft Sea Wall.  Not sure why we’re so addicted to Alex’s crazy adventures, but damn it’s fascinating and scary af. This one is especially frightening because its in the Artic and his team wants to bail out halfway through due to the dangers of falling rocks.

Make it an awesome week!:
