300 Fng Pounds. Teen FBB. Get Stoned. CDC Conflicted. Crenshaw. Omega 3s! The Week Ahead 4.12.21

“People do not seem to realize that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.”  Ralph Waldo Emerson

“I WEIGHED 300 FNG POUNDS”  Diablo member Andrew Lloyd shares his amazing journey with us.  “I was not ‘miserable inside.’ The day before this and the day after this was great. Most of this day was pretty great, too. As has been almost every day of my life before and since. And this is not some ‘I knew something had to change’ moment. Because, I want to assure you, like everyone who’s been as big as this or bigger, I’ve had thousands of those. The day I defaulted to 3XL t-shirts. The day I was about a minute away from being offered an airline seatbelt extender. […] and that morning, I stepped on the scale in the condo and for the first time in my life, the leading digit was a three. I weighed 300 fucking pounds. Read the rest of the story here.

CONGRATULATIONS INDY ATHLETES! This weekend 11 Diablo athletes completed the 5 brutal CrossFit Games Quarter Final workouts. This was an impressive test of fitness that included strict handstand pushups, a ton of GHD situps, pistols & wallballs, rope climbs, a 4 rep max front squat, and a heavy snatch (#135/185) & 30” box jump metcon. Several of our athletes have never dealt with the volume and difficulty of a qualifier competition yet powered through. Scores will be final once video reviews are completed by CrossFit.

NEXT UP: TEAM QUALIFIER! “Diablo CrossFit Anejo”, a team comprised of all Diablo members, also qualified for the next level of competition. Beginning April 22nd, 4 team athletes (2 men & 2 women) must complete 5 or more workouts in 4 days. Team members to be announced soon.

CRAIG’S LIST (Stuff I’m Reading, Listening To or Watching)

Why I do not trust the CDC:  “CrossFit Settles Lawsuit With HHS (Nov 2019)” – I dug this article up to send to a friend and I re-read it before sending and was shocked again when I saw the names of companies who have made significant contributions to the CDC. The crux of CF’s lawsuit is that two foundations that provide research and funding for the CDC and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) failed to publish their donor reports, even after being instructed by Congress. Damning emails from the foundations also demonstrated their desire to hide the donor data. Why? Because the list of donors to the CDC & NIH include major food, beverage & pharma corporations who are in positions to benefit greatly from research and policies of the CDC & NIH including,

  • Coca Cola
  • Pepsico
  • Johnson & Johnson
  • Amgen
  • Pfizer

“This should not come as a surprise. At least one CDC researcher has described the CDC Foundation as a ‘professional money-laundering facility,’ and it is increasingly clear that the organization turns food/beverage and pharmaceutical industry dollars into information and recommendations favorable to those industries, all with the federal government’s seal of approval.”

Dan Crenshaw on Joe Rogan #1630 – Dan Crenshaw is a former Navy Seal and a US Representative. He is a Conservative but I find him to be a moderate, open-minded, critical thinker. I really enjoyed his discussion on health care and the need to have a 1/1 relationship with a primary care physician who should act as your quarterback. Although Joe was a bit annoying in this episode, I really enjoyed how he challenged Dan on key issues, ie. voter registration & immigration.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids Ameliorate Vascular Inflammation(via Rhonda Patrick) This is IMPORTANT! Inflammation is a key marker for future heart issues. People who supplemented with 4g of EPA/day had a 25% reduction in a marker of acute vascular inflammation after inflammatory injury.

Make it an awesome week!
